7 Easy Seed Cycling Recipes with a Desi Twist
Eating the same spoonful of seeds every morning gets boring fast. These easy, familiar recipes make the follicular and luteal seeds part of everyday Pakistani food.
1. Dahi seed bowl (any phase)
Top a bowl of plain dahi with your phase seeds, a little honey or gur, and chopped seasonal fruit such as banana, guava or apple. Ground flax mixes in smoothly; pumpkin and sunflower seeds add crunch.
2. Seedy lassi
Blend a glass of lassi with a tablespoon of your ground phase seeds and a few dates. Drink it soon after blending, as ground seeds thicken the lassi if it sits.
3. Til and sunflower laddu (luteal)
Dry-roast sesame and sunflower seeds until fragrant. Melt gur with a spoon of desi ghee, stir in the seeds, and shape small laddus while warm. Two small laddus can cover your daily luteal seeds.
4. Alsi and kaddu paratha (follicular)
Knead ground flax and crushed pumpkin seeds into your atta with a pinch of ajwain and salt. Roll and cook as usual. The seeds give a nutty taste and soft texture.
5. Seed chaat topping
Mix lightly roasted seeds with chaat masala and a squeeze of lemon. Sprinkle over fruit chaat, chana chaat or salad for crunch.
6. Overnight oats
Soak oats in milk with your ground phase seeds overnight. In the morning, add fruit and a drizzle of honey. Good for busy mornings.
7. Seed energy balls
Blend dates, a few almonds and your phase seeds into a sticky dough, roll into balls and keep them in the fridge for up to a week.
A few practical tips
Roast seeds on low heat and stop as soon as they smell nutty — burnt seeds taste bitter. Keep ground seeds in the fridge. Sesame is a common allergen, so check before serving the luteal recipes to guests.
